My GlaStar Project

I purchased a GlaStar kit at Oshkosh in August 1999.  At the time of purchase, I ask for a delayed delivery as I had planned to build a third bay addition on to our two car garage.  At that time the addition (now referred to as the Hangar) was only a thought.  After, arriving home from Oshkosh, I began planning the Hangar.  You can't believe how difficult it is to get zoning approved for such a small project.  I was able to get the foundation in just after the Thanksgiving Holiday just before bad weather.  I did not start construction on the framework until the following Spring.  I was able to get it under roof and partially moved in by Summer of 2000.  I still continue to worked on both the GlaStar and the Hangar.

When the kit arrived in March 2000, I parked the cars outside and placed the crate in one of the two garage bays.  This is where unpacking occurred as the Hangar was being built.  All of the parts were unpacked and moved for long term storage.  Fuselage parts were placed in the other garage bay, metal parts were moved to the basement where I planned to build the wings and the tail sections.  Items such as fuel tanks, wing struts, and landing gear were placed in the garage attic by way of a drop down staircase.  I felt that the hot and cold temperatures in the attic would not be detrimental to these items, we'll see.

Here's the crate sliding off the tilt bed truck. Notice the pickup in the background, it's parked on the concrete floor that is to be the new Hangar.

The driver pushed the crate inside with the truck bed. There was just enough room to shut the door from the outside.

It all comes apart.

I slid the crate over just enough to get the entry door open.

Moving into the Hangar.

Just enough room for a walkway.

Unpacking into the second bay.

Top and sides of the crate removed.
