Rudder

Build Time - 101 hours

To build the Rudder jig a floor jack was anchor to the basement floor with it's top bolted to the floor joist above.  This jack would remain and become part of the Horizontal Stabilizer jig used later.  For now a banquet table was attached to the floor jack to be used as the Rudder jig.  The 1x12 upright piece that I attached may not have been needed, however it did make a nice surface to attach the Yoke Weldment.

This 6' table, purchased at Staples for $20 has a 2x8 foot section of 3/4" oak plywood clamped to the top. It was leveled and bolted to the floor.

A 1x12 piece of 3/4" shelving was attached to the floor jack with a 3" muffler clamp and screwed to the oak table top. This made a perfect Rudder jig.

I put two large bolts together to make an adjustable jack to hold up the top of the aft spar.

It was suggested that I be in a picture or two to prove that I did the work.

Beginning assembly after priming with green zinc chromate aircraft primer.

The forward end of the alignment line was tied to a heavy stool (not shown).
