GlaStar Fly-in

Hi, my name is Richard King. I live near Cincinnati in Amelia, Ohio. I am a Glastar builder who is looking forward to flying my Glastar someday. However, this project is about our Glastar fly-in for the Ohio Valley Region. This will be the Sixth Annual Glastar Rough River Fly-in (the first fly-in was canceled because of the 911 tragedy). It will be in conjunction with the Annual Rough River Sports Weekend at Rough River Dam, Kentucky. This year’s event will be held on September 7, 8, and 9. The Fly-in is hosted by the local EAA Chapter 657 and the Rough River Dam State Resort Park.

Activities include: FAA Seminars, Vendor Booths, Awards Dinner, Aircraft Camping and lots of sport flying. Unlike Oshkosh and Sun N Fun, pilots are encouraged to fly for sport, give demo rides, and in general come and go as you please, in other words plenty of flying and lots of camaraderie. This will be an excellent opportunity for owners of a flying GlaStar to meet with other Glastar builders and the flying public. Believe it or not, we are nearly as proud of your Star as you are.

Every September the Annual Rough River Sports Weekend is held at the Rough River Dam Kentucky State Park. Rough River Dam is located 70 miles southwest of Louisville, KY; 120 miles southwest of Lexington, KY; 155 mile southwest of Cincinnati, Ohio; 250 miles southwest of Columbus, Ohio; 75 miles southeast of Evansville, IN; 110 miles north of Nashville, TN; 250 miles northwest of Knoxville, TN: 200 miles southeast of St Louis, MO: It is only an hour or two flight for many of the flying Glastars in the Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Tennessee, and the Kentucky area.

Some pilots fly in for the day, some come for several days and camp by their airplane on the airport. Others choose to rent a cabin for a few days and many choose the luxury of staying at the Lodge. There are many things to do, golfing, swimming, boating, tennis, etc. and just sitting under your wing and visiting with the other pilots and local spectators. Of course you will never forget the delicious buffet lunches and dinners at only $6.95 and $11.95, or that ride you got in that special homebuilt aircraft that you have been admiring for so long. Yes, what else but a Glastar. Since Glastar owners love to fly, I am sure we will have a good number of Glastar planes attending.

Who will be there?  All types of homebuilt and production aircraft attend this fly-in event; GlaStar, Glasair, RV, Antique/Classic, Ultra light, and more. Click for a view of a few Aircraft Attending in past years event.  I use to fly in and camp with our Piper Cherokee , however this year I will drive in and stay at the Rough River Campground.  Therefore, I will not be hosting at the cabin as I have in past years.  However, if someone else would like to do so that would be fine.  Hopefully, I will be flying in next year and giving rides.  The cabins are within walking distance of the Runway, the Lodge and the Lake.
